i can't keep my mouth shut any longer.. :-)

warranty issues are complex.. i wont' go into it further than to say:

toshiba will warrant any toshiba drive.. it takes a while, but they will..

fujitsu is faster and better to deal with than toshiba (of so i've been
told)

ibm will only warrant the drive to the original purchaser..
i.e. buy a travelstar from an ibm auth. distributor and its under warranty..
buy it from me and i'm your warranty agent..
usually, i go back to MY vendor, who covers the drive and ships me out
another drive..
i pay for shipping the dead drive back to my vendor and the replacement
drive to my customer..
some of you know that i go further than any other vendor selling drives
retail..

buy a travelstar from an ebay seller and HE is your warranty agent..
i've seen drives for sale on ebay where the seller promises IBM warranty and
i KNOW he's lying..!

thinkpad option drives are in the same boat..
the PC division warrants them, NOT ibm storage systems..
a few years ago i was told that the pc company was just another customer to
ibm storage systems..
perhaps this is why some thinkpads have hitachi drives in them..

Cordially, :-)
