One saving grace, if you know someone who has one (or if you made one) is a boot disk made under
windows 98 or a FAT32 aware version of 95. This would at least allow you to save your sensitive data.

Actually... yes and no. No it won't leave your files alone in the sense of all files as a collective. But it should
leave your personal data alone if the proper technique is employed.
Here is the yes part, if you re-install using the EXACT installation path. This will overwrite a lot of the system
files but it should keep all the registry entries on your programs installed intact. Now one little glitch in the
whole thing is that sometimes even though device drivers are on the harddrive, it may beg, scream and plead
for the driver disks which you may or may not have. DON'T USE THE RECOVERY CD TO RE-INSTALL! I'm
serious about this because it will FORMAT your drive and all your precious data.
Reducing my backup speech to a few sentences, I'd save an image of the entire harddrive (if possible) before
trying this technique.
Bewarned! Microsoft Windows 95 is no longer supported by Microsoft and the Microsoft Libraries for Windows
95 2.0 are no longer available through Windows Update which was the only way (or only way I knew) to get
them. I'm poking around with people at MS to see if I can't find a copy of that file. If any other list member
knows how to get a hold of that file or has a copy of it, I'd be willing to talk in private about acquiring it.
Good luck!
