600E battery does not charge

I asked my friend from a failed dot.com to buy me one of their company's
used TP 600E. He was able to get me one in a fair condition cosmetically but
loaded to the gills ( 296 ram, PII 400, dvd).

However, there was post it note on the laptop that says "battery does not
charge". I tried charging the battery but it will not charge. I then tried
my office mate's TP 600 battery but it still won't charge.

Is there anything else I need to do? FYI, the warranty has expired a couple
of months back.

Hello,

One thing I like about the internet is you can go
get datasheets on stuff like the P2 MMC2 module.
Being an Electronics Tech, temporarily a software
engineer, I am familiar with Datasheet land.

Wow the MMC2 connector has 400 pins! It looks like
the memory/AGP/PCI interfaces are on the module.

The datasheet for the P2 MMC2 module indicates there
is a FQS line that indicates the 66 MHz or 100 MHz
bus speed. This reminds me of the line out of a
regular P2/P3 that selects the FSB. Intel intended
that this line get connected to the 440BX so the
FSB gets automagically selected. Some MB makers
have some facility to override this in the BIOS.

The P3 MMC module has the speedstep stuff in it.
Some I/O pins are used to connect to control
circuits off the chip.

One of the considerations is how much heat does
the fast processor generate and can the 600e
get rid of it.

I guess it comes down to this. Did IBM put in
the required support circuitry to support the
P3 versions. My 600e has 32 megs of memory
built-in that I assume is PC66. That memory
needs to be modified or disabled if I upgraded.

Now, that's interesting. I thought the bus speed was actually
controlled by the motherboard itself so it's actually the module that
controls the FSB? Now it would be interesting what the fastest CPU you
can get in the thing. Yeah, PII's have cache running at 1/2
speed. PIII's run at full speed. Celeron up to the models before the
300A has no cache. Celeron 300A and higher all have full speed cache
which makes it faster than a PII of the equivelent clock!
