Did you re-boot after each change?

IRQ errors primarily. Try running your DOS program from a DOS prompt rather
than from within a W98 DOS window. Use the DOS configuration utility to set
your ports correctly: http://www.pc.ibm.com/qtechinfo/RMIE-3AXE3E.html

Run the PS2 ? command from a DOS prompt to get all the info you might need.

No, but the Intel utility will give you this info.

The serial numbers can be readily changed with the correct utility, but not
the system TYPE AFAIK.

I understand, but I have the same model 600E (2645-4AU) and when you enter
EZSetup the initial screen reports:

BIOS: INET34WW, 11/20/99
System/Ser No.: 26454AUXXXXXXX
System Board Ser. No.:
Microprocessor: Pentium(**) II processor 366MHz.

If you don't get get a report similar to the above, especially WRT the
processor, then there's a problem. The PII processor in the 600Es is _not_ a
Speedstep enabled processor, so that's not a possible problem with your
unit.

IBM repair here in the US. In the UK you have to contact IBM and either
carry it in to a repair facility or ship it to Ireland IIRC
http://www.ibm.com/planetwide/uk/. But, you should definitely check the
warranty status at http://www.pc.ibm.com/support, only takes a second.

I wouldn't do that at this point, let's first try to get a final answer on
what's inside your unit.

James
