I'm not sure. On my other PC under control panel if you change
any settings you're always prompted to reboot. I may not
have if not prompted to.

I have tried running the code from a DOS window, it didn't
work.

I'll try that config utility tonight.

Is it definitley not possible to have a generic BIOS
for more than one machine?

The version I've got isn't listed on the IBM site, but
it's got an IBET number like all the 600's.

If the machine's somehow got the wrong BIOS I presume it could
mis-read the processor speed.
