I expect the interaction you describe is either due to a lack of knowledge
by the port replicator that there is something plugged into the internal
speaker jack -OR- this is by design.
One solution to this situation is to pick up a standard 1/8th inch plug
(without any wires attached to it) and just plug it into the notebook
when you plug the notebook into the port replicator. These plugs are
probably available from your local electronics retailer for $1 or so.
