I got sidetracked by my other problems, but wanted to follow up on
this too.

1. David's suggestion (order :) to hold the power button works just
fine, thanks!

2. The inability to shut down continues to be a problem. Does
Steve's suggestion (only solution: reformat and reinstall) apply to
Win2K as well? The notebook has a mix of programs similar (but not
identical) to my desktop's, which doesn't have this problem.

3. The spontaneous rebooting is also still happening. I've noticed
it only seems to occur when nothing has been happening on the
notebook for a while (not sure how long, might be 5min might be
15min). It doesn't happen if I'm working, but it can happen if I
have files open and don't do anything for a period. And it will
sit otherwise-idle for hours and hours (without rebooting itself)
with a Logitech WebCam connected and running. Is this also a
reformat requirement?

4. In case either or both of the above problems were related to the
extra 100MHz memory I put in some time ago, I pulled it and the
problem continued. But I'm still coming up with only 192Mb RAM
(196032) when it should be 224Mb (32+64+128). I can live with the
missing 32Mb, and I don't want to buy any more (and I assume by the
time I replace this TP600, any replacement machine won't take the
100MHz anyway). When I bought the last 128Mb, 100MHz was cheaper
than 66MHz at crucial.com, it still is but less so. Does anyone
have a surplus 66Mhz they'd like to trade for this 100MHz?

So bottom line, am I stuck with doing a complete re-install? I'm
not travelling in the near future, so now is the time to do it if I
have to.

Thanks!
andrew
