I snagged a 600X from overstock.com which advertised it as
"factory reconditioned." It didn't come from the outfit's fulfillment
center, as they later agreed it should have, but from an outfit
dealing in corporate off-lease. I love the machine but it arrived as
a bare machine plus ac adaptor and no indication that it was
refurbished. Even tho Overstock.com assured me that it was legit
I would have squashed the deal then except that it turned out the
machine has nearly two years left on its warranty and IBM cheerfully
(and free of charge) supplied restore CDs and a copy
of the user's guide. The IBM rep did say that I would have to
contact Microsoft for a replacement COA but the restore disk
did everything automagically and never requested a serial number.
The restore cd supplied its own.

If the machine is still in warranty then it seems IBM will provide
replacements.
