I had a 701C where the hinges failed (this was a known problem
with the 701C, one of its few weak areas) and this was fixed by
IBM under the three-year warranty. However, that may be of
historical interest only because it was about 5 years ago.
Incidentally, if you still have a 701C, you can reduce the
strain on the hinges by using a tiny bit of lubricant.
However, too much lubricant and the LCD screen begins to flop
about. I also do not know what the recommended lubricant is.
