DVD playback under Win2k may be possible with the free program
FusionSoft DVD Player XP.

I installed the 3 MB download and after starting the program
and inserting a DVD (The Prisoner) was told that my hardware
was incompatible. However, I went into Options (F2) > Decoder
and changed from the default decoder to "Fraunhofer decoder"
and everything was OK. I don't know whether the "Fraunhofer
decoder" already existed on the 600E (this isn't the first
video stuff I've installed) or if it came with the package.

The interface used to be completely in French, but for this
version seems to default to English (except for such
trivialities as "Chapitre" instead of Chapter.)

The quality of the playback is OK, nothing miraculous, but I
have little to compare it with. It is less jerky than version
3 of the same program under Win98. Audio is fine, good stereo
separation, but even at max volume isn't particularly loud.
Actually, this all is pretty good. I have 9 app windows +
ZoneAlarm + Proxomitron + an Ethernet card and the playback is
OK.

I don't know what the significance of "XP" in the title is.
I do know that I was unable to read the documentation, which is
in a .chm file (whatever that is!).

Many earlier links to this program and its developer seem to be
broken.

I was able to download version 4.5 of this program from
http://www.pctip.ch/downloads/dl/20874.asp
(a site in Switzerland)

FusionSoft DVD is distributed under the GNU public license.

The 600E is 366 MHz (speed matters) with 128 MB RAM (size
reportedly does not!).
