Another posssibility is that the memory isn't the
correct type, maybe it's 5 volt rather than 3.3 volts
or something like that and is keyed incorrectly, the
notch in the center is in the wrong place.
There are different positions for the notch depending
on the type of memory. You can still (almost) seat one
of those other types in the slot if you push hard
enough.
