You really need to do a network, but more importantly, Windoze programs can
not be copied, they must be installed, only the date can copy over (and NOT
always). Laplink works, but it is way slow compared to a network. All you
need is an Ethernet card in each machine, and one crossover cable to connect
the two. You can also do a USB date transfer cable, assuming the 770 is
running 98 or higher.

Subject: Sharing files between ThinkPad 770ED and desktop computer
I have a ThinkPad 770ED running Windows 95.
I recently purchased a desktop computer running Windows XP Home
Edition.
Initiallly, I would like to copy many programs from my ThinkPad to the
desktop, without having to reinstall each program manually.
I would also like to be able to share files between the two computers
on an ongoing basis.
Would it be feasible to accomplish both of the above goals with
Laplink? If so, does anyone know if the current version of Laplink
will work between two computers, one of which is running Windows 95
and the other Windows XP Home Edition? (I tried installing an old
version of Laplink, designed for Windows NT/95, on the new computer,
but it would not run.)
Or do I need to set up a home network between the two computers? I
would like to avoid this if possible, since it seems like a much more
elaborate project than my needs would justify.
Any advice would be most appreciated.
