Anyone add a Combo II drive to a T23 Running XP?

Just got a cd-rw/dvd drive for my T23... it comes with the Veritas DLA
and assorted software... but then I see on the IBM site that the
software is not compatible with Windows XP and that an "update" program
is available although its not clear whether you just run this or run it
after installing the software they ship with the drive

I haven't installed it yet and would love to avoid and problems... are
people running the Veritas DLA software with their CDRW drives in XP
pro? Has anyone used the above update program?
