I've resolved the issue I previously posted about, where my T23/Win2000 wouldn't standby or hibernate.

By stopping all applications and then going through each of the services running on the machine (ctrl-alt-del, task manager, processes), and finding each file on the hard drive to see what it was, I was able to see which things were running that IBM hadn't supplied.

I narrowed the problem down to "WROS.EXE", which is a component of WinPOET 2.0 (which I need to use for my DSL connection). There was no way to stop this process from running, but if I temporarily removed the file and restarted the machine, standby worked perfectly.

I discovered that there's a freeware PPP-over-ethernet app, called RASPPPOE, which resolves this issue. It can be found at:
http://user.cs.tu-berlin.de/~normanb/

(If I hadn't have found that, another avenue would've been to buy a router that supports PPP-over-ethernet, and replace my ISP's DSL modem with that. This would have eliminated the need to run any app at all. But, I prefer the free and immediate solution I found!)

So, all is well once again with the new machine.
