Thanks everyone for your feedback. I ordered from Crucial and was
going to post my results, but the unit was back-ordered and only
shipped today (so I still don't have it, but here's my experience
so far).

Thanks for the suggestion, although I don't think I need that
capacity yet. You're right about the $/Mb.

I certainly don't doubt your hands-on experience, but the spec for
my Kodak DC215 Millenium blah blah edition claims any
regular-thickness CF card will work, in fact they say if the
capacity is >999 images, the counter will stay at 999 until it goes
down.

In the end I decided on 32Mb from Crucial, it's not the cheapest/Mb
but Crucial is much cheaper than eBay (f'rinstance) what with free
FedEx and all. I figure it will give me about 200 pix at my
current settings (higher resolution, maximum compression in the
camera) but I'll probably switch to best quality and do the
compression on the PC.

Twenty five exposures was too limiting but I expect 100 will be
enough, and if I continue to make good use of the camera, I'll
upgrade. Which will surely require a capacity increase, and might
involve a format change (to Memory Stick or one of the others).

And if I find I'm doing it a lot, 512Mb or 1Gb will undoubtedly be
cheaper, possibly by an amount greater than what a bigger CF would
cost today! (If that makes sense).

It's 100bT, really it's just my desktop and ThinkPad sharing a
router. But it would be nice to put a PCMCIA adapter into the
notebook, then pull files off drive J: (notebook C: seen from the
desktop), rather than investing in a PCMCIA adapter for the
desktop.

As for files, I used to put 300-400Mb of files onto a CD-R when
travelling to the customer site. Partly that was a form of backup,
even if the TP died or disappeared en route, I'd still have the
data. I could zip (even without compression) if one big file is
faster to transfer than multiple small ones, but that's for the
future.

One of the biggest reasons for going PCMCIA route is that I then
don't need to carry the USB adapter around with me.

Thanks for the suggestion, after multiple attempts to find CF
memory I gave up. I already ordered from Crucial for U$20.45
including California tax and free shipping but was interested to
compare the net cost.

Certainly this is cheaper than eBay, where the 32Mb sell for
$20-$25 including shipping, and $30-$35 for 64Mb (although some
poor guy sold a 128Mb Viking for <$40).

Thanks everyone for your suggestions!
