Your thinkpad is trying to save your battery for you by refusing to charge it
when it has been discharged only a teeny tiny amount.

Be forewarned that running with the battery in all of the time is an expensive (but very portable!) way to have your system on a UPS.

Also: Li-Ion batteries are limited to N charge/discharge cycles. Once you hit the max, that's all she wrote and you're off to buy another battery.
