You seem to forget that there are a lot of security fixes to be had also
the most sensible thing any user (who backs up there machine) and has a
legit copy of xp which it would seem you don't, can do it keep it as up
to date as possible. It's like keeping virus definitions up to date Ms
has that many security holes they keep patching.

Like I keep saying, don't install any of those
updates! This applies especially to the service pack.
Install it from the CD and if it works, leave it
alone! Not only is the service pack too big for most
people to download but it won't install if it checks
the Windows serial number and determines it is not a
valid number. That happened on the Screen Savers show
yesterday when they tried to do the update.
If you need just one of the fixes for some reason then
install just that one fix.
