As Mike pointed out, one way is to install a video server on the desktop, and then browse that machine over the wireless network.
If all you're trying to do is something like watch a movie that lives on the desktop, you could simply use your favorite viewer (eg, Media Player) on the laptop to play a file from the remote mount.
