[755 CX] How to set TFT display to 800x600 ?

Thinkpad 755 CX runnning Windows 98:

According to the IBM webpage (link at the bottom of this message)

10.4-inch, 65 536 colors, SVGA TFT color LCD (800 by 600 resolution)

the 755 CX should be possible to run with 800x600 resolution.

When I try to change the display settings from 640x480 to 800x600, it
always reverts back to 640x480.

This happens regardless of the colour settings.

Any ideas how to set it to 800x600 ?
