I'd welcome the posting of any success stories with the newer Toshibas such as
the SD-R2102 or SD-R2212, especially information as to where they were purchased
that didn't require you to be an OEM or VAR.
FWIW, I've had excellent success with Lite-On LSC-24081 combo drives in the
fleet. I got them from Peter Eng via his eBay store:

$235 for a 24x Write/12x Rewrite/24x CD ROM & 8x DVD ROM for the A, T and X:

Same drive and price for the 600 series:

Installation was just as simple as outlined on his listings, although they don't
fit _exactly_ as well as the originals. The faceplate stands a skosh proud of
(higher than) the top of the drive and doesn't have the bottom "lip" that
seamlessly incorporates the original drives into the bays. But, they work _very_
well, which is the important thing to me and came with Roxio burning software
and PowerDVD-XP 4.0.
He's got 8X combo drives also, but for an additional $45 the faster drives are a
no-brainer.
He also sells a non-combo 8x Write/8x Rewrite/24x Read CD-RW for the A, T and X
for $99: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2043013185 that's
another no-brainer for those who are only looking to burn CDs.
Same drive for the 600:

I have no connection with Peter beyond being a satisfied customer.

James
