I spoke to the warranty department on the phone (1-800-772-2227) and they wanted to stay online with me and reseat the cable . I didn't have my computer with me at the time, but I plan to call back sometime over the next few days to work through it - you'll need a small screwdriver. If that doesn't work, they said i can either send it in or bring it to a local dealer to fix.

There's a great diagram of the exploded LCD view on the ibm service site. The title of the page is TP T2* - LCD parts FRU list - sorry don't have the address. The IBM Mobile Systems, Hardware Maintenance Manual is also online if you want to know how to take some things apart.
