It sounds as if you would not have known it was there without doing some
work. That makes me feel this is an issue IBM needs to re-thimk.

I run a shop where we repair a lot of computers... probably only 12
laptops a week... but several of them each month only need to be
cleaned, but there is no way for the customer to know that... I consider
it part of our job to clean the equipment. That is part of the repair,
as far as I am concerned.

But I can see how "large organizations" and union folks would be afraid
of anthrax and poisons and such... Yet, you would think that something
coming in for warranty service says something about the owner. It would
be hard for some creep to send in a true biological hazard without
getting caught.

You don't want your staff put at risk. Perhaps IBM or EZServe had an
incident. I know that a lot of laptops are returned for refurbishing
when a corporation goes belly-up... Perhaps angry employees about to be
let go did a little "damage" or cosmetic gooping as their way of getting
even.

Still, I can't see how IBM is justified in sending something back that
has no visible damage or contamination. Cleaning remains part of the
repair, though perhaps they should charge something... It can't take
more than a half hour to clean anything and everything.
