I don't consider the 760XL marginal. You can put up to 104 MB or RAM in
them if you get the right carrier.
However, it is a rare and devoted Thinkpad owner who can get the
infrared to work on any regular basis... They have always had
engineering problems. I don't think it is equipment problems, but rather
design flaws...
Infrared didn't really start working well until some 600's, but really
not until the 20 series...
You can get some things to work on infrared, but not reliably.
