Check out http://www.compgeeks.com/products.asp?cat=CAS --
they have a number of new USB and Firewire enclosures for
different sizes of HDDs. I just ordered one for use with my
TP A20m, along with a PCCard USB 2.0 controller; will report
back once I've tested them out.
You can use a 2.5-to-3.5 adapter kit to mount a 2.5" drive in
a 3.5" mounting bay; I have purchased several from these guys
in the past, but they don't seen to have any in stock right
now. They're usually under $10, here's another online site
that carries them for $5:

Compgeeks right now also have a new 20gb IBM TravelStar HDD
for Thinkpads for $109
