Doesn't really make sense to upgrade from 300 Mhz to 400 Mhz. Might as
well just buy a Thinkpad 600x which is a better machine overall... You
won't really notice any difference from 300 400... go up to 500.
The modem is going to give you lots of trouble unless you disable
existing modem and upgrade to a PCMCIA V.92 modem, then will be good
only if you are physically close to a good relay station of the phone
company, and your ISP is fully set up to handle v.92. Most people notice
no difference, and more trouble.
The memory and hard drives are good ideas. Just make sure your hard
drive will fit, and that you have the correct caddy for both the hard
drive and the 770.
Cost wise, and performance-wise, I think you will be better of selling
your 770x and buying a 600X 650 Mhz.
Still that tough old, heavy 770X is a wonderful machine.

--"I know what you're thinking about," said Tweedledum; but it isn't so, nohow." "Contrariwise," continued Tweedledee, "if it was so, it might be; and if it were so, it would be; but as it isn't it ain't. That's logic."
