Hi Everyone,
I want to thank everyone that tried to help me get going on my used TP 600e. I was pretty scared and asked some pretty dumb questions without a manual. This is really a great group of very knowledgeable people!!
I went to the IBM site and looked up....... Tips for getting the most out of your battery. That document appears to be contradictory. But it may be just me not understanding all this yet. I copied the section below from the document. First it says they don't recommend deep-discharging Li-Ion batteries .......then further down it says for the battery pack for the 600 series...if the indicator light appears to be incorrect...to recycle
the battery...fully charge, then fully discharge. Isn't that the same thing as deep discharge? If not, please explain the difference to me.
Also, if I wanted to test my used 600e battery to see how long it would last if I didn't have access to a wall outlet....... Is it safe to run it down to the point where the little beeper beeps three times? My battery power says its at 100% now. About how long would that give me on just battery power? An hour?
I bought it online at Ebay's Half-com and it said Factory reconditioned. It appears to be in good shape. Very nice, good looking, small and compact. I am a bit intimidated by it though and hesitate to add any programs until I understand it more. I am used to my full sized computer at home and its amazing that they can fit all that into that little tiny black case!!
    Thank you for any feedback...

It is recommended that you deep-discharge your Ni-MH battery every few months for optimum performance. Deep-discharge occurs when your ThinkPad system is used on battery power until the charge is at 0% (the system will automatically go into hibernation). At this point, attach the AC adapter and charge to 100%.

NOTE:

a.. It is not recommended that you deep-discharge Li-Ion batteries.
Extending the battery life:

For 560, 600, 760, 765 and 770
The battery pack for the ThinkPad 560, 600, 760, 765 and 770 series systems is an intelligent battery. It contains a microprocessor to monitor its capacity.
Information of remaining battery capacity is passed to the system from the battery pack, and the system indicates the capacity in 1% steps from 0% to 100% with high accuracy.
If the indicator appears to be incorrect, it is recommended that you cycle the battery (fully charge, then fully discharge) three times. This may occur when the battery is over charged or discharged.
