These spontaneous cracks can happen when a runaway floor rises up and
strikes the ThinkPad. Ask him how fast the floor was going at the time--it
must have been quite a sight.

Other than runaway floors, I've never heard of such a thing on an A2x series
machine, and I've seen a fair number of them. In fact, a friend of mine had
a fast-moving floor strike his A21p so hard that it broke the USB jack where
a mouse was plugged in, but there was no visible case damage.
