It's too late to help with this particular unit, but something you might
consider doing for all the laptops you have to maintain is attaching one of
the stick on impact indicator devices that are used with high value shipping
cartons. They would provide a clear indication if the laptop had been
dropped or otherwise seriously mishandled. And no, I have no idea how much
the things cost.

I believe that he has had the A20 for about a year. And of course, the warranty has long expired. He had previously "lost" a 600E. Now, the A20M has a bad crack starting at the right rear corner extending beyond the hinge. He claims that the Thinkpad developed the crack all by itself. Although I am dubious of this story, I want to poll the list to hear if anyone else has experienced "spontaneous" chassis cracking on their A series Thinkpads before I mention this latest incident to my user's manager. I know of the hinge area failures on some of the 600Es and the palm rest area failure on the T20s. I don't recall hearing of any A2x chassis problems. I think.
