[Thinkpad] TP600X Internal Mic Problem

My TP600X W2K recently developed a problem. The
internal mic is apparently picking up sounds and
feeding it to the built in speakers. If I have the
volume more than a couple of notches, there is a
feedback squeal. Of course, turning the speakers off
(or low) prevents that, but it's a poor workaround.

Any suggestions? Is there a place where I can turn the
mic off? Do I need to reinstall drivers? If so, can I
just reinstall the microphone device drivers?
