Also a possibility - (if you don't want the headaches of uplink ports,
etc) DLink is now making switches with "automatic MDI/MDIX detection
providing true 'plug and play' capability without the need for confusing
crossover cables or crossover ports. With the media auto-sensing feature,
plug in the network cable to the DSS-5+ directly without the need to worry
if the end node is a NIC (Network Interface Card) or switch/hub" - not a
bad deal since that takes away the worries of whether you either have the
button in the right place or cable in the right port for an uplink.
DLinks are almost always reasonably priced, too. I don't have any
connection to them besides having a few around the house and being pleased
with their operation. I've also got a couple NetGears around that are
good too.
