[Thinkpad] linux on tp570

Hi,
i am thinking of installing linux on my ibm tp570 and need your advice
on what flavour I should choose. Debian is out of the question as I
don't have an ethernet card. I was thinking of redhat but am afraid it
will gobble up too much space (I have only 2 Gb available at the
moment). My only request is that the distro should have as little
problems as possible in detecting the hardware (I have the ultrabase
and am afraid detection of the cd-rom and floppy drives might cause
problems). What would you recommend?
