Thanks for this advice, and to everyone else. I decided to start
by removing my screen unit, both the try the advice above and to
see if I can do it (with an eye to getting just a replacement of
the top unit).
I've got the Hardware Maintenance Manual (09n1033.pdf) and am
looking at page 78 "1090 LCD Assembly". Removing the four screws
at Step 1 is of course easy. But I can't identify part "2" which
seems to cover more screws and needs to be removed.
Since the manual has no written instructions, can someone please
enlighten me?
