I've been assigned the task of transferring the family slides to CD and
distributing them to my siblings.
I've got a Thinkpad i1300 (or i1200?) with a 700 Mhz celeron, 180 Mb RAM
and a 9.5 Mb hard drive.
I've also got about 2000 35 mm slides of my siblings and I going back to
the early 60s.
The first thought was to have the slides scanned by a commercial shop
but at $1 each i'm thinking it might make more sense to buy a nice slide
scanner and do them myself.
Is this crazy talk?
If it's a matter of loading them into a tray and letting it run it would
be simple but I've got a suspicion that it might require a little more
effort.
If scanning them myself is the answer what scanner should I be looking
for and how much disk space should I plan on per scan.
If a professional shop is the answer then what should I be looking for
(specific recommendations welcome).
Thanks
