I also see the exact same behavior on a T40 with the Radeon M9 video,
running XFree86 4.3.0.

Hi,
Has anyone with T30 (or other models with the Radeon M7 Mobility video)
successfully got Linux, XFree86 4.3.0 and LCD backlight/screen-blanking
to work?
In my case, if I do Fn-F3 (or let the bios timeout turns off the LCD
backlight), then hitting a key to 'wake up' the screen will turn on the
LCD
backlight, but the display will stay blank. Hitting CTRL-ALT-F1 (or F2)
to
display the console screen doesn't do anything. To fix it, I have to
Fn-F4/suspend and resume the computer to get the screen to display
again. I
tried both ATI/Radeon drivers from XFree and Gatos with no luck. I
don't
recall having the same problem with XFree86 4.2.1.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
