[Thinkpad] Does IBM have any interest in Tablet PCs?

As we ate dinner the other night, we were startled by a loud fizz and pop
sound. My girlfriend's monitor went dead. Not very exciting to her, but
for me it was an excuse to spend a little money and add a 3rd Thinkpad to
the family. :) Or so I thought...

Problem: she really likes the idea of the new Tablet PCs. IBM is
pretty conspicuously absent from the current offerings, which would force
us to look at Toshiba (which seems to be getting decent reviews so far).

Anyone have any long term experience with Tablet PCs? Obviously all
speculation, but do you think IBM has any interest in the Tablet PC arena
or do you think they're going to skip this first generation?

I'm still trying to convince her that the X31 is more up her alley (she'll
be attending grad school this fall, so weight and battery life have
priority). Any rumors of faster processors, different displays coming
down the pipeline for the X series in the near future?
