the 7200RPM, 60gig travelstar is faster..
how much faster is a bit of a mystery, to me, at this
moment..

i ran the norton benchmark on a 40gig 5400RPM drive and a
60gig 7200RPM drive..
initial results were the 7200RPM drive was faster..

since i ran this test on these two drives i cloned on to the
other and tested them in my A31p using an 80gig drive as the
boot device (WXP) and the other drives one each in the
UB2000 (7200 drive) and the other (5400 drive) in the
UB2000+..
initially, the 7200 drive tested faster..
so, just to be sure, i swapped the drives with the 7200
drive in the UB2000+ and the 5400 drive in the UB2000..
SURPRISE, the 5400 drive now tested nearly as fast..!?

whats happening here..??
i don't yet know..!

next i'll install the norton 2003 suite on both the 5400 and
7200 drives and test each in the used T40p i have..
sometime tonight..
after that, i'll do the same thing in my A31p..

and really get a better handle on haw fast these things
really are..

but remember, there is more to HDD speed than merely cache
and RPM..
like how the files are sorted and the file system in use..
beyond the mere mechanical and interface questions..
so YMMV and subjectivity will play a part..

but i'll bet loading photoshop will go faster.. :-)
and thats one thing i'll try when i do this on the A31p..
