[Thinkpad] Bicycling with Thinkpads

Hi,

I am planning a 300 km bicycle trip and I am planning to take my
Thinkpad i1200 with me (I'll put it in my backpack). My TP has 8 GB hard
drive.

My questions are:

- do you think it is a good idea? I mean - maybe there were some transport
  issues with i1200 Thinkpads and I should better don't do that?
  
- do you think it would be better to take the whole laptop (wrapped in some
  soft clothing) or take out the HDD (just to add some additional soft
  wrapping around it) ?
  
Planned transport time is about 48 - 72 hours.
