No programmes running except the O/S and still the problem remains. CPU
usage monitor shows 1-3% (I assume this is the LAN, isn´t it?) and the
problem remains.

I was thinking about this as well. Maybe the part of the sensor which would
order the fan to switch down/off is not working?
How easy/diffcult is it to check the connections? Where can I find
information how to do this?

With the PowerManagement options of Win2000 set accordingly it doesn´t
work. Already checked.
There are special drivers for the Thinkpad keys? Never heard of that before
... where can I find them? (Please note, that my machine does not have
buttons like the "Access Thinkpad", which some of the newer machines have.)
