I have several 600s; a 600e and four 600x's and they all blast the fan
after about 15 minutes... I tried a few things a few years ago to no
avail

Use ,,Pause'' key before booting starts - or enter BIOS and wait.
Anyway, if
W2K Task manager doesn't show anything valuable, it might be the
hardware -
but I'd still check it anyway (what if some application, like virus,
could
hide itself and it's CPU usage? I don't know, how ,,CPU load'' is
implemented in W2K core, anyway... the minus of closed-source software
