is IBM on the hook for a dropped thinkpad..??

no..

this is why even legitimate problems become billable..
i'm not an angel..
i speed, i spint on the sidewalk and i don't go to church..

but i think i would be bothered if i took advantage like
that..
this is why there is insurance for EVERYTHING from theft to
dropping your thinkpad..
