You might be experiencing a power problem. Look at the rating
on the power supply, then look at the rating on the ThinkPad. The
voltage should be the same, and the amperage rating on the power
supply must be equal to, or greater than the amps wanted on the
ThinkPad.
It sounds like a thermal problem to me. A slightly bizarre test for
this might be to put your ThinkPad in a large plastic bag and then
put it in your freezer for 20 minutes or so, then try using it. You
do NOT want to keep it in there a long time; electronics do not
like being awoken when really cold. But cooling it down some
and then testing to see how long it lasts before shutdown might
tell you something. I'm thinking that perhaps the supply isn't working
well, and something in the ThinkPad is drawing too much current,
which causes something to die after a while.
If this is 9 months old, it should still be in warranty, I'd hope.
So check things and try the freezer trick. Let us know what
happens.
