Yes, the exclamation mark is on one of the IDE controllers, the controller
that the hard disk is connected to. It seems the hard drive is missing from
the system properties control panel; I would guess that it's either because the
drive is partitioned to dual boot Win98 and Debian (unlikely), or because of
the exclamation mark IDE controller.

The C drive is running in DOS compatibility mode. DMA appears to be not set
(it wasn't set when I booted into Linux). I've updated my virus definitions
and am running a full scan now, though I highly doubt I'm infected. And I did
install the hot/warm swap driver.

Looks like you're dead right about my configuration. Would uninstalling the
hot/warm swap driver fix the situation?
