You may need to install Disk Manager's drive overlay software, under Advanced Options, to have the 560e's bios recognize the drive. That should be done on the pc in which the drive will be permanently installed. Else, your desktop pc may not recognize the drive, as it's bios doesn't need to be "fooled".

My brother-in-law recently bought a used thinkpad 560e and asked me to wipe the drive and reinstall windows. It didn't have a floppy or cd-rom drive so I hooked the drive up to my pc with a 2.5" to 3.5" converter. Unfortunately I broke a pin on the original drive and had to buy a new drive. I was only able to get a 12 gig Toshiba drive locally. I used Disk manager to set the drive up but when hooking the drive back up to the thinkpad the drive would not work at all. Do I have to use an IBM or Hotachi drive in order to get this thing to work? I read on thinkpads.com that they got a 12 gig drive working on a 560e.

  Thanks,

  Ben
