he wants to have a solid feel under his palms..
i would not tie the buttons down..

for the T30 series there is a non-touchpad keyboard bezel..
under $50..
for the T40 series, there MIGHT be a similar part for the
palmrest..

if i wanted to have the touchpad out of there i would use
rubber cement (maybe) and a small plastic filler, but VERY
CAREFULLY as the clearences are microscopic..
i have not tried this.. at this point this 'solution' is
only speculative..
or maybe duct-tape.. :-)
whatever i did i would keep in mind that some of these glues
are very agressive..
