[Thinkpad] [T20] Preserving LiON life?

Hi there,
Recently obtained a slightly-used T20 battery on the cheap. I seem to be in a predicament in regards to proper battery care/usage. In order to run at full speed AFAIK I must leave the battery in, even with AC(AC adaptor can't supply full power(?)). However I'v also read that it is not good to let batteries in while on AC for extended periods of time. Now I don't plan to necessarily use this as a desktop machine, but even when I'm mobile I like to use AC as much as possible. Batteries aren't all _that_ expensive, but I'd like to get the most out of what I've got. Has there been any workarounds to this power issue? Why can't us T20 users simply purchass a higher-wattage adaptor, and not worry if the battery is in? I presume disabling speedstep will do me no good.

Thanks,
-Jamie
