A couple more W9x driver tips before you begin:

(1) In normal mode, the device manager hides drivers for any hardware it
doesn't think is currently installed, as well as duplicates. Use Safe Mode
for any device manager driver inspection/removal you want to do, especially
hardware removal before a reinstall. Sometimes going to the device manager
in safe mode is a real eye-opener, for example you might find many more
devices listed than you have ever had on your system.

(2) Once you install a device, whether the correct driver or not is attached
to it, the information gets stored both in an .inf file and in the driver
database (two files with .bin extensions, usually in the Windows\Inf
directory). To really cleanly remove misfunctioning/wrong drivers, remove
their .inf files and these .bin files - for safety, you can rename the
extension instead of deleting the files. On next reboot, Windows will
rebuild the database.
