with a modem before I buy. I still use my modem on road trips.

Mini-PCI is a standard format except the length from the edge connector to
the opposite end of the card varies. You should check that dimension before
ordering. Also check that the connectors for your antennas are generally in
the same location on the new card and you should be alright.

I haven't tried this exchange personally, but I have upgraded mini-PCI
modems before for Dell versions. If it doesn't work, you can always flip it
on eBay again and you'll only be out $10 or so.
