Greetings,
my TP600X is driving me crazy !
Model 2645-4EU with 589,248 KB reported and running Win 2000 with SP3. All
appropriate driver upgrades installed from the IBM TP support site
With a fresh install of W2K this machine will readily allow installation of
PCMIA cards (various brands of network cards) which will operate perfectly
UNTIL the machine is either shut down or allowed to go on standby for the
first time.
Upon rebooting or reawakening W2K detects new hardware but declines to find
the relevant drivers from its own collection and refuses to find drivers on
the card manufacturers CD or floppy which was used to install the card in
the first place. Result is non operating PCMIA card "of unknown
manufacturer"
If the HD is wiped clean and W98 is installed EXACTLY the same thing happens
after card installation and the machine is shut down and rebooted for the
first time.
BUT The same PCMIA cards operate perfectly on my TP600E also running W2K
with SP3
The only possibly relevant difference I can see is that the 600X has Texas
Instruments PCI-1450 CardBus controllers while the 600E has Texas
Instruments PCI-1251 CardBus controllers.
To my non technical brain it does seem to be a CardBus issue because all of
the cards have problems in the 600X but they all work just fine in the 600E
and the OS's are the same.
I have RTFM'd, searched the IBM web site and Googled to no avail and now I'm
beginning to doubt my sanity.
All suggestions gratefully appreciated.
Richard
