Re: [Thinkpad] CPU Upgrade for 770Z - Anyone Tried PIII 500MHz after Switching 64MB Onboard Memory to 100MHz?

Now let's just think about this upgrade a minute.
Other than the obvious scientific curiosity, is there any practical reason
to do it?
Well, lets see......
The 770Z already plays DVD flawlessly with PowerDVD due to the motion
enhanced video board
A faster CPU won't affect hard drive or memory size
It has a 56K modem - that won't improve
If you install a network card, the Internet speed will still be the same.
THe crappy non-3D video card will still be the crappy non-3D video card.
Word processing will not be any different.
In fact, in theory going to a P3 500 would be a 1/3 or slightly more speed
increase.
But in the real world, what can a 500 do that a 366 can't, all the other
components being the same?
NOT MUCH
So, other than getting a benchmark program to run faster, this really seems,
on reflection to be a bit of a waste of energy.
Now if you could get it up to say 800 Mhz, that would be a different story!
