The 600X definitely has two IDE channels. My DVD drive has no
jumpers. A CD-ROM drive from my 600E also has no jumpers.
Remember that the poster wrote that a CD-ROM drive in that bay
works fine. I've never seen mention of a jumper in the bay,
either.
I would second the idea of testing with the DVD drive only,
removing the hard drive and seeing what happens.
